Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Patients suffering from OCD have intrusive thoughts that cause them to feel extreme anxiety and they attempt to reduce this by repetitive behaviour, avoidance of certain triggers and compulsive thoughts. This is very time consuming and can be perceived by others as strange. Though the client recognises their behaviour is irrational, they are unable to stop themselves.
Hypnosis is effective in helping the client to reduce their anxiety and in addition, cognitive behaviour techniques, such as thought stopping can be incorporated into the hypnosis. This treatment together with anti-depressants helps the client gain control of their OCD.
