Panic attacks
Panic attacks
Panic attacks are a set of physiological symptoms such as rapid heartbeat, shallow breathing, dizziness etc. that is an extreme reaction to a fairly innocuous stimulus. For example people will develop a fear of flying even when their chances of dying in a plane crash are minimal. Generally panic attacks centre on the client’s lack of control in situations and is often rooted in an event or a series of events that have been repressed. So very often the client will experience anxiety without knowing the cause. Even if clients are aware of the cause they tend to relive the original fear in situations that mimic the lack of control they experienced in the original event. As a result, most sufferers tend to avoid situations that make them feel this way.
In order to become free of panic attacks the sufferer needs to be regressed to the original event, so that the irrational feeling of being out of control is removed.
