Regression
Regression
Clients often ask me what regression involves and why it is necessary. It is an important tool in reframing bad experiences and must only be utilised by therapists who are trained in this method.
Our behaviour is determined by the interaction of our personality with our environment. If a negative experience occurs when we are young, the child does not have the emotional or logical resources to cope. Hence the emotional content of that memory begins to colour how the person behaves. The memory may be consciously remembered or if too painful, may be banished to the realms of the unconscious mind.
Regression therapy allows the client to access these memories and reframe them so that the negative emotional content no longer has influence over present or current life experiences.
Very often, anger issues, anxiety or panic attacks and low self-esteem are the outward manifestations of a past negative experience.
